Living Streets Scotland is pleased to offer an opportunity for people from community groups, local authorities, and partners from public health or other sectors to attend our free half-day workshop in Glasgow. We are also holding workshops in Perth and Aberdeen.

Living Streets Scotland’s ‘Walkable Communities’ project aims to involve a range of partners in encouraging people of all ages and abilities to walk more often as a sustainable and healthy choice for local journeys. Funded by the Scottish Government and Paths for All, the project allows us to work with partners to help to deliver the core aims of the National Walking Strategy, which sets out a clear vision for walking in Scotland: “A Scotland where everyone benefits from walking as part of their everyday journeys, enjoys walking in the outdoors and where places are well designed to encourage walking.

The workshops are an opportunity to learn about and plan effective interventions that enable and encourage people to walk more often as part of their everyday journeys and will focus on:

• Making the case for walking – Increasing our understanding of the social, economic and health benefits of walking

• Raising awareness of the most common barriers to walking (physical environment and other barriers) faced by people using our local streets

• Understanding what a Community Street Audit is and how to organise one in your neighbourhood

• Consider what action you could take locally in the future to encourage a walkable community’.

Workshops will also include a short walkabout as a ‘taster’ Community Street Audit.

Tea/coffee and a sandwich lunch will be provided. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements.

There will also be workshops held in:

Perth – 15th November

Aberdeen – 24th November

If you have any questions, please contact the Living Streets Scotland office on 0131 243 2645.

The event is free and no pre-booking is required.
