Working with Architecture and Design Scotland

Buildings and places have a huge influence on the quality of our lives and our wellbeing.

We know from experience that a place is better when the people who live there work together to shape it. If you join Architecture and Design Scotland, you will get to meet an extraordinary group of talented and committed people who work to ensure we fulfil our objectives. If you are inspired to help to create Scotland’s places and you have a passion to clearly communicate the benefits of this approach, we would love to hear from you.

Design Officer (B1) - Fixed Term (to 31 March 2027)

We’re looking for an enthusiastic design professional to join our team on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and promote the value of high-quality design across Scotland’s built environment.

Reporting to the Director of Design, you’ll support the delivery of projects and collaborate with colleagues across the organisation. You’ll gain hands-on experience in design-led engagement, contributing to our work across housing, public sector investment, and sector development.

You’ll assist senior staff with live projects, help plan and deliver workshops and events, and contribute to research and content creation. This includes developing case studies, sourcing imagery, drafting reports, and supporting the creation of publications and learning materials.

We’re looking for someone qualified in a relevant discipline and working toward membership of a professional body (such as the Architects Registration Board, Landscape Institute, etc.). You should have experience in a project environment, strong communication and graphical skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Based in Edinburgh, this role requires at least one day per week in the office, with occasional travel across Scotland.

Salary: £34,936 - £37,894 (B1), starting at entry level

Contract: Full-time, fixed-term

Closing date: Monday 22 June 2026, 9 AM

If you’re organised, creative, and passionate about improving Scotland’s built environment, we’d love to hear from you.
