Recruitment has opened for three new Board Members of Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS), announced by The Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture on 5 March 2026.

On 5 March 2026, Angus Robertson MSP, The Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture opened the recruitment to appoint three new board members for Architecture and Design Scotland.

Architecture and Design Scotland is seeking three new board members as the current post-holders step down after completing their terms of office.

As board members, you will support the creation and renewal of sustainable buildings and places. You will be part of a group of people that will work with the Chair to provide strategic direction for Architecture and Design Scotland’s role and remit.

Architecture and Design Scotland has entered a significant period of strategic change. While its core mission to champion good design across Scotland continues, the organisation will now take on a more central role in developing the nation’s architecture and design workforce. This includes supporting skills development, growing sector-wide capacity and strengthening their impact across Scotland’s places and communities.

Chief Executive, Jim MacDonald said, “As the organisation begins to move in a new direction, this is a great time to get on board and help us shape what that looks like. If you believe in the power of design, are committed to driving change, and love working as part of an amazing team, then this could be just the chance you’ve been looking for.

Please take a moment to look at the role in more detail and if you’d like a chat about what’s involved, feel free to get in touch.”

The vacancy closes on 16 April 2026, with an appointment expected by mid-June. Full details about the role and how to apply are available on the Public Appointments website here.

An evening online information session will also be held on 25 March at 18:30 - 19:30. You can register for this event on Architecture and Design Scotland's website here.
