Kingsland Primary School
Kingsland is a 400-pupil school in Peebles in the Scottish Borders. It is on a prominent site at the edge of the town, overlooking the hills and valley below.
The case study looks at some of the key design successes of the school. These include the use of double-spaced classrooms (classrooms with a moveable partition wall), natural light and access to the outdoors.
It also looks at the way materials and colours have been used to make the interior space feel light and bright.
Colmonell Primary School
Colmonell is a small school of fewer than 50 pupils in a rural village in South Ayrshire. It was completed in 2011.
A key success of the project was the good communication and engagement between the community, school and council.
The case study also explores how it was not about designing a room for 25 eight-year-olds, but rather a space that allows for different activities for different ages and stages.
