What if…?/Scotland opening event: launch and Q&A recording

Shared hopes, dreams and wishes for the future of the places where we live.

A boy in a dimly lit exhibition space looking up at postcards hanging from the ceiling. The postcards contain wishes of citizens for the future of their place.

On the 21st of May, we helped to launch What if…?/Scotland and shared a walking tour preview of the exhibition content. The full recording of this online event is now available below.

Speakers included Ewan Anderson, 7N architects, Christina Gaiger, President The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, Leonie Bell, V&A Dundee, and Jim MacDonald, Architecture and Design Scotland representing the Scotland + Venice partnership.

What if...?/Scotland - launch and Q&A

The story behind What if...?/Scotland

Commissioned by the Scotland + Venice partnership What if…?/Scotland has been created by award winning Edinburgh based architecture and design practice 7N Architects, in collaboration with Architecture and Design Scotland, Bash Art Creative, O Street and Buro Happold.

Designed to be staged in Venice as part of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, What if…?/Scotland responds to the Biennale’s theme How will we live together?, seeking to re-engage the civic role of design professionals by asking communities from across Scotland to share their hopes and dreams for the future of the places they call home.

The What if…?/ Scotland exhibition opened at V&A Dundee from Saturday 22 May until Sunday 21 November 2021.

Scotland + Venice provides architects and artists based in Scotland with a valuable platform to showcase their work on the international stage at the Venice Biennale and is a partnership between Creative Scotland, British Council Scotland, National Galleries of Scotland, Architecture and Design Scotland and the Scottish Government.
