Over 120 people gathered at The Lighthouse on 27 February to participate in a Legacy Seminar to celebrate the achievements and passions of the late Dr Steve Tiesdell of Glasgow University. People came from across the academic, governmental and practitioner communities of Scotland, England Wales, and even Finland. They included friends from all stages of Steve’s career, including former architectural and academic colleagues, research clients, former students, as well as his family. The seminar was followed by drinks in Babbity Bowster, a favourite haunt of Steve’s in the Merchant City, then a curry evening at the Dhakin restaurant.
A scholarship fund is being set up in Steve’s name and a further event is being held in his alma mater, Nottingham University in April.
A newsletter provides a summary of the proceedings. Hyperlinks are embedded with links to a podcast, presentations, and photographs from the event.
Also produced is a note from the workshop session at the seminar which derives a set of thoughts on the future of placemaking from the participation of delegates. The purpose of the note is to inform research questions which can carry forward Steve’s legacy as a thinker, and practitioner of delivering better places.
