Shaping Places at City of Edinburgh Council
Monday 18th November to Friday 13th December 2013
A&DS is pleased to support the City of Edinburgh Council in hosting ‘Shaping Places’ at the Council’s Urban Room, Waverley Court from 18th November – 13th December.
The exhibition summarises thinking from the last collaborative publication between Professor David Adams and Dr. Steve Tiesdell : ‘Shaping Places’. The book explores how towns and cities can turn real estate development to their advantage to create the kind of places where people want to live, work, relax and invest.
The purpose of the exhibition is to raise awareness of current academic thinking on urban design and inform development practice towards the creation of better places in Scotland. Key principles from the book are presented as well as visual case studies of exemplar developments from across Europe, with images drawn from the Steve Tiesdell Legacy Collection on flickr. Shaping Places was previously exhibited by A&DS at the Lighthouse.
To launch the exhibition an After Dark Debate will be held by the City of Edinburgh Council at the Urban Room, Waverley Court on Tuesday 19th November 5pm for 5.30 pm. Professor David Adams will set out the book’s principle findings, with responses from a panel comprising representatives from both the private and public sector and chaired by Riccardo Marini the City Design Leader. Please arrive early on the night to ensure a seat!
