Please note that submissions for this tender have now closed.

Creative teams are invited to submit proposals for a project to celebrate architecture, Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, with the potential to show the project at one of the most prestigious architecture events in the world – the Biennale Architettura, Venice.

The Scotland + Venice partners (A&DS, Scottish Government, British Council Scotland, Young Scot and Creative Scotland) are looking for a team to deliver an imaginative proposal to respond to the theme ‘Freespace’, the theme of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice in 2018. The team will ideally be connected to architecture as a creative discipline.

Context of architecture

Scotland’s contribution will focus on engaging young people based on their response to the theme. In recent years, the context of architecture and place in Scotland has broadened to put greater emphasis on issues such as community empowerment and participation, health outcomes, tackling inequalities, and quality of life. It is anticipated that some of these issues may be relevant to theme of Freespace and its relationship with young people.

The partners would like the project to show how good architecture and place improves the quality of life. We want to inspire people to get involved with architecture and to give young people learning opportunities. The selected project will support and promote Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.

Venice: international showcase

The Scotland + Venice partnership (Scottish Government, Creative Scotland,  Young Scot, Architecture and Design Scotland and the British Council Scotland) in addition to engaging with audiences throughout Scotland, hope to present a Scottish project in Venice during the 2018 Venice Biennale, which would provide an exciting opportunity for a creative team to engage with one of the most prestigious international showcases for architecture.

Applications

The deadline for submissions is noon on Monday 11 September 2017.
