The joint A+DS and SNH ‘sustainable placemaking programme’ starts by asking “what do you want to do?” in a place, and considers the unique qualities that exist, what people will need, and where public space might be.
Through group working different scenarios are considered to develop a ‘Concept / Vision’, identify ‘Non-negotiable principles’ and ‘Desirables / like to haves’, and a ‘Key spatial strategy diagram’.
Through cross evaluation of scenarios against evaluation criteria, common agreement can be reached about which proposal is the most desirable for the future wellbeing of the site, that accounts for judgements and trade-offs that may be necessary.
Having identified a preferred scenario (or combination of ideas) it is then possible to explore this further to set out clear guidance to help brief the preparation of a masterplan as part of supplementary planning guidance.
This report summarises the process, outcomes and presentations.
