As part of the Architecture Week 2006 John Gilbert Architects green a Park(ing) space with turf.

This took place on St Vincent Street (between Hope and Welington Street) in Glasgow’s city centre on Wednesday 21st June 2006 from 8am – until they were kicked off at 10am!.

Deckchairs, umbrellas and coffee were provided. Although Glasgow claims to be one of the greenest cities in Europe only 9% of the land is public green space whilst 12% remains as roads and parking. With a predicted increase in Glasgow’s traffic levels of 40% by 2021 [taken from The Scottish Executives Delivery Report 2002] it is clear that steps need to be taken to discourage the use of cars in the city and promote a healthier and greener lifestyle.
