Material of the Month: July 2015 – Scottish Beech

Why it’s inspired us…

Beech wood is heavy and strong, and is normally a pale pinkish-brown colour. Beech is an excellent wood for making for all kinds of furniture. As it is clean and odourless is perfect for uses associated with food, and childrens toys. Beech wood is not durable outside.

Why we’d like it to inspire you…

Since the beech tree has such delicate bark, carvings, such as lovers’ initials and other forms of graffiti remain because the tree is unable to heal itself.

The tallest and longest hedge in the world (according to Guinness World Records) is the Meikleour Beech Hedge in Perth and Kinross. So if you have anything to declare for posterity you could head there.
