Gareth Hoskins, Scotland’s Healthcare Design Champion, has today addressed a meeting of the Chief Executives of NHSScotland.
Speaking at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh he addressed a group of about 30 of NHSScotland leading figures. Gareth set out the lessons that have been learnt from 18 months of working with Health Boards and indicated the areas where improvement is needed to deliver humane and optimistic hospitals and healthcare buildings.
The Chief Executives were charged with providing leadership and supporting their own design champions to raise the profile of the value a well designed estate can bring to the service.
He explained that more is needed to be done to support and empower estates teams and to change procurement processes to better value design quality.
Giving examples of recent healthcare buildings in Northern Ireland, he challenged the assembled boards to match the quality of what is being delivered elsewhere.
