Architecture + Design Scotland conducted a survey in July 2006 across four distinct groups of respondents which are involved in PPP schools projects to determine the issues and barriers to excellence in school design within the PPP model and to establish recommendations of good practice and guidance for future projects. The final report was prepaired by Glasgow Caledonian University on behalf of A+DS.

This study has been undertaken to document the beginning of part of the most significant investment programme in educational construction in some four decades in Scotland.
The main objective of the study has thus been to document the initially completed programme of new secondary schools as an example of the wider public investment programme, providing a detailed and standardised information set with some descriptive analysis. It has not been the intention of A+DS in this to evaluate the schools (i.e. the ‘products') or the construction ‘process', but to provide information about both in the public domain. In doing so A+DS will also be better able to contribute in future to its role of architecture and design champion.
