Gareth Hoskins,
Scottish Healthcare
Design Champion
At the heart of the initiative is the drive for better healthcare buildings which can make a measurable difference to the experience of staff, patients and their families.
Architect and A+DS Board member Gareth Hoskins was appointed as the Scottish Healthcare Design Champion in September 2006 to lead a growing network which currently includes 34 Design Champions across 19 NHS Boards.
Design Champions are senior figures from each health board charged with leading the design agenda. Their work includes changing attitudes, raising aspiration and putting in place systems to value and deliver high quality, humane environments which support and promote health.
The network, which is facilitated by A+DS, is a source of training and a vehicle for sharing and disseminating good practice and the lessons from our project based work. Through the operation of this network A+DS have an opportunity to influence the scope of NHS procurement, from the refurbishment of a GP's reception to the building of a major new hospital.
