A. Grant Gordon

Grant, principal of Gordon + Latimer Architects, has been a partner in private practice since 1975.  His experience includes special needs education and housing projects, medical centres & health buildings, and disabled access provision.  He worked briefly in Sweden before coming to Edinburgh to practise. He is a registered Adjudicator, Planning Supervisor and Access Consultant.

Ailsa McGregor

Ailsa is a Chartered Surveyor, Project Manager and Management Consultant with a broad scope of experience over 20 years. Ailsa set up McGregor Business Consultancy Ltd in 2003; prior to which she was a director in a large consultancy, with responsibility for setting up and running the PPP/PFI section, advising clients on procurement and project managing complex public private partnership projects.

Alan J. Simpson

Alan Jackson Simpson is an Architect Urbanist, Teacher and Writer. He has worked across the UK, in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States, with national and local government agencies, universities, community and business interest groups, and interdisciplinary professional teams, brought together to respond to critical social, economic and environmental urban planning and urban design problems and opportunities. He taught at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Liverpool, University College London, and was Fitz-Gibbon Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at Carnegie Melon University Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Alan Simpson led the creation and application of the Yorkshire (UK) Urban Renaissance and Town Team Programs.

Alan Stewart

Alan is a Director at John Thompson & Partners and manager of the practice's office in Edinburgh.  He is an architect and urban designer with substantial experience working with private developers, housing associations and local authorities on major residential-led developments and large scale regeneration projects throughout Scotland and the north of England.

Alistair Hendry

Alistair is a lecturer in planning and urban regeneration at Glasgow Caledonian University and a planning consultant working in urban design and design policy. He has extensive experience of shaping major Scottish urban initiatives, having managed strategy and plan preparation/implementation across Glasgow when he worked for that City's Council.

Alistair Scott

As a founder of Smith Scott Mullan Associates, Alistair has wide experience of all aspects of architecture from the design of high quality individual buildings to major urban regeneration projects.  His enthusiasms include developing a contemporary architecture which makes a positive contribution to our cities and the design of sustainable buildings. 

Andrew Bayne

Andrew is a planner and urbanist with 12 years' experience in new settlement planning, sustainable communities, urban design guidance and community consultation.  Major projects include new settlement Master Plans for Winchburgh and Edinburgh's South East Wedge and the Waterfront Granton Design Guidance.  Andrew set up ABC Masterplanning in 2006, prior to which he worked for EDAW and Llewelyn-Davies.

Andrew Merrylees

An Honorary Professor of Architecture, Andrew has been at the forefront of architectural practice for many years, first as a partner of Sir Basil Spence and then on his own.  His buildings have won many awards and range from Edinburgh University Library, now category A Listed, to the National Library of Scotland and British Golf Museum at St. Andrews.

Annie Pollock

Principal of Arterre, Annie has over 28 years' experience as a chartered architect and landscape architect in private practice and local authority. She has particular expertise in the public realm and design for disability, particularly for elderly people and those with dementia, for which she has won 2 awards. Her landscape practice is combined with project management and teaching.

Arnie Dunn

Arnie has worked for over 20 years as an architect working in the health and further education sectors with a particularly strong level of experience in Primary Care and Mental Health facilities. He is a director of Campbell and Arnott and is committed to the principles of sustainable development.

Brian Moore

Brian has drafted procurement guidance for the Scottish Executive, Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Arts Council and Communities Scotland and has managed over 100 design team selection processes, often through the application of EU procurement rules. Brian also assists clients in the use of Design Quality Indicators at the briefing, design, construction and post completion stages of projects.

Brian Stewart

Brian spent over 30 years with an international multi-disciplinary design practice culminating as Group Chief Executive 2002-2005.  Significant award winning projects included The Scottish Parliament and National Museum of Libya (short-listed for Aga Khan Award). Now director of the Scottish property company Hazledene, he is responsible for the Group's strategic direction and the operations of Hazledene Estates and Hazledene Homes.

Chris Morgan

Chris is the principal of Locate Architects, and formerly a project architect at Gaia Architects. He has over twelve years' experience as an Architect and Builder across the UK and New Zealand. Chris has particular expertise in ecological design and sustainable development, holding certificates in Permaculture and Building Biology, accredited to B* level by the RIAS in sustainable design and is immediate past chair of the Scottish Ecological Design Association (2006-07).

Chris Rankin

Chris is a graduate of the Berlage Institute Amsterdam, a Landscape Architect and a part-time lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art.  His experience includes strategic landscape planning, urban design, housing related masterplans, historic and contemporary parks and gardens and public art strategies.  Chris has experience of working with the private sector, public bodies and community based organisations.

David Chapman

David is a director of Steppdesign and  Urban Design Skills. He is a registered town planner and has over 10 years' experience working on a range of masterplanning projects, including commercial, mixed-use and residential development. David has extensive expertise in housing regeneration and has a particular interest in design policy and design quality.

David Jamieson

Architect and founding partner with multi-disciplinary practice Zone Architects, David has direct experience of urban regeneration, public realm, public and private sector housing and healthcare building in Scotland. He has taught architectural design at the Universities of Newcastle and Edinburgh.

David Narro

David is a Chartered Structural and Civil Engineer with over 30 years' experience and is Managing Director of David Narro Associates Ltd.  David serves on the RIAS Conservation Committee and tutors at Edinburgh University Department of Architecture.  David is a Past-Chairman of the Scottish Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers; he has been elected to Council for 2006-2009.

David Stark

David is a Director of Keppie Design and has worked on healthcare and education projects for the last 15 years.  He specialises in modern procurement initiatives such as Public Private Partnerships, including design methodology and evaluation tools.   He has advised both the private and public sectors in various parts of the UK and Ireland on a wide range of projects.

Delton Jackson

Delton is a Senior Urban Design Officer with the City of Leeds (formerly with Newcastle), Chair of the CEU-UK (the Council for European Urbanism's National Chapter for the United Kingdom), and a Renaissance Advocate for Yorkshire Forward. Passionately interested in community and design-led regeneration, he is also a strong advocate of local and regional identity.

Diarmaid Lawlor

Diarmaid is an experienced urbanist with a background in interdisciplinary thinking. He works across all the scales of urban design, from strategic policy to area masterplanning, coding and implementation. His creative approaches, problem solving competence, and communication skills enable him to make positive contributions at all levels of the design process.

Dick Cannon

Architect and Partner at Elder and Cannon, Dick's main areas of expertise are educational and residential projects.  He also has extensive experience in arts, civic and commercial buildings.  He has acted as Client Advisor on a number of PPP Projects.  Major projects include St Aloysius College Development and Homes for the Future in Glasgow.

Donald Canavan

Since the 1980s Donald has worked throughout Scotland on a diverse range of projects from high quality design led schemes in sensitive rural settings, to commercial, leisure and residential projects, for both private and public clients, through a variety of procurement routes. While an Associate at Keppie Design he was team leader for the new SNH Headquarters, and is now a senior consultant with Hurd Rolland Architects.

Eugene Mullan

A qualified architect, urban designer and one of the founding partners of Smith Scott Mullan, Eugene's enthusiasms and expertise relate to the regeneration of neighbourhoods.  Over the course of the past 15 years he has been involved in a range of urban design, residential and consultation projects for developers, housing associations and public bodies. 

Frances McChlery

Frances McChlery is a specialist planning and environmental lawyer with Simpson & Marwick.  Her background includes many years service with local government and she is experienced in advising and providing training to public and private sector planners, local government officers and elected councillors, and in the complexity of the assessment and governance of major projects.

Gordon Duffy

A native of Edinburgh, Gordon has professional qualifications in both Interior Design and Architecture completing his studies at the Royal College of Art and Polytechnic of Central London. He spent 5 years as architect to Piers Gough CBE of CZWG Architects and returned to Edinburgh to set up Duffy & Batt architects with partner Charlotte Batt. The practice changed name to Studio DuB in 2006.

Gordon Murray

Gordon is a principal in gordon murray + alan dunlop - architects.   He has taught in Schools of Architecture in both Glasgow and Edinburgh and was appointed Visiting Professor in Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Strathclyde in 2003. He has served two years as President of The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (between 2003 and 2005).

Grazyna Portal

Grazyna is a Polish-born botanist and landscape architect with wide experience of private and public urban design projects. Her private practice is based in Edinburgh and she also works part-time for North Lanarkshire Council. Grazyna has a strong interest in quality design, ecology, and sustainability.

Hunter Reid

Hunter has gained broad experience from working in the public, private, voluntary and teaching sectors as a client, technical consultant, enabler and project manager.  He has specialised in housing, historic buildings and working with community led organisations, often on projects with a strong emphasis on design and innovation.

Jane Mulcahey

Having worked in both private practice and local government as an environmental planner, Jane now runs her own practice, jam consult ltd. Her work has focussed predominantly on sustainable development, in particular large-scale regeneration projects in the UK and abroad including: sustainable development frameworks; master plans; appraisals & statements; environmental impact assessments; Local Agenda 21/Community strategies; and consultation.

John Adden

John Adden was born in the USA, and trained at the Architectural Association, qualifying in 1970. After working for the Lambeth Architect's Department for 3 years he joined Ellis Williams Architects in 1972, becoming an Associate in 1976, Partner in charge of the London office in 1988 and Chairman of the practice in 1999. He was involved in all aspects of project and practice management including a broad range of housing, art and, especially, educational projects. Since leaving EWA in 2002, he has worked as a sole practitioner on a number of residential projects and an ongoing urban design consultancy in Thailand. While at EWA, he was a part time tutor at the AA and has recently again been involved in tutoring at the Edinburgh College of Art Architectural School. 

John Barr

John Barr has wide experience as an architect and project manager in the UK, Holland, the Middle East and Japan. He has offices in Osaka and Glasgow, is a registered architect in the UK and Japan and a fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. 

John Miller

John has been running major projects for nearly twenty years.  His experience includes healthcare, higher education, commercial and masterplanning projects in Scotland and abroad.  He is in charge of the Edinburgh office of Bennetts Associates, one of the UK's leading practices.  He is an APEAS examiner and sits on SUST, the SE supported sustainability steering group.

Johnny Cadell

A senior architect, and former director of Edward Cullinan Architects, Johnny set up the partnership Cadell2 in 2001. The practice has established a reputation for innovative urban design and regeneration through work at Drum in Bo'ness, work for Kirkcaldy Renaissance, for the Aberdeenshire Design Forum, masterplanning for EDI and masterplanning the Highland Housing Fair. 

Karen Esslemont

Karen, Director of EDAW, is qualified as both landscape architect and urban designer: she has worked extensively in both the public and private sectors. This mix of skills and workplace has given her a breadth of experience in all aspects of the development industry from policy writing to policy challenge, project design and implementation, research and masterplanning at a variety of scales.

Keith Horner

Keith is a Landscape Architect and Partner of horner + maclennan, with over 25 years of experience working in private practice, during which he has completed a significant body of work. His experience extends across a range of scales including strategic masterplanning, site planning of major development projects, landscape design associated with urban and rural projects and high quality landscape detailing.

Kenny Fraser

Kenny is a Landscape Architect and Educator with 12 years of professional experience including the award winning Scottish Parliament Building landscape project. He combines teaching in the School of Landscape Architecture at ECA with practice at recently formed rankinfraser Landscape Architecture LLP where he is a Partner. He has particular expertise in the Public Realm, masterplanning, urbanism and housing.

Kevin Cooper

Kevin joined Parr Architects (now SMC Parr Architects Ltd) in 1990 and has since developed a particular interest and expertise in school design. In addition to many educational PPP projects, he has also been involved in a wide variety of other work, including the major re-development of Edinburgh Airport and various strategic masterplans. He is also a visiting design tutor and critic at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Architecture.

Maggie Barlow

An associate Director with DEGW and with 25 years of post qualification experience Maggie has worked in many sectors including education, commercial, life sciences and residential.   

Maggie is interested in ensuring that buildings work hard to deliver effective outcomes by ensuring that user needs are effectively interrogated.

Sustainable and responsible architecture is an area she is very committed to. 

Marc van Grieken

Marc is a Landscape Architect and Principal of Land Use Consultants with over 23 years' experience.  His particular experience includes large scale master planning, landscape design, landscape and visual impact assessment and research. Marc is also an occasional lecturer at the Landscape Course at Edinburgh College of Art.

Marilyn Higgins

Marilyn is a member of the RTPI and Urban Design Group.  She is a Senior Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University where she teaches mainly urban design and people & organisational management. She has extensive experience of planning practice and research and has delivered urban design training for local authority officers and councillors. Marilyn is currently spending one year in New Zealand where she is the Director of Planning Programmes at the University of Auckland and researching urban design issues in a different context.

Mark Cousins

Mark is an Associate Director at Oliver Chapman Architects and has been involved in a number of significant urban regeneration projects across Scotland over the past 20 years . Mark's work encompasses teaching, consultation (with property developers and public bodies), publishing and practice and, having worked in Germany and Australia, brings an international perspective to pertinent design issues. 

Mark Fresson

After studying at Edinburgh College of Art, Mark worked in San Francisco before joining Parr Architects (now SMC Parr Architects Ltd) in 1990. He became a Director in 2002, and is also chairman of the Practice Sustainability Working Group. Mark has extensive experience of masterplanning commercial development projects and is currently involved in the masterplanning of new communities, and mixed-use development.

Patrick Clark

After graduating, Patrick worked in private practice in Chicago, London and Oxford, before returning to Scotland and joining Parr Architects (now SMC Parr Architects Ltd) in 1989. He has been responsible for a number of industrial, commercial, and office projects, as well as mixed use Urban Regeneration projects. He also has experience as a Client Design Advisor on PPP hospital projects.

Patrick Dignan

A partner in Dignan Read Dewar Architects LLP, Patrick has more than 30 years' experience including housing, banking, health, education, culture, conservation and regeneration. He has visited major centres of Art, Design and Architecture of the past and present throughout Europe including contemporary international Art, Design and Architecture events.

Peter Bowman

With thirty years as an architect, including six in property investment and development, Peter brings an extensive and unique knowledge base across all sectors of the industry. Recent experience of PFI/PPP and LIFT projects in the education and health sectors has complemented his commercial sector knowledge. 

Philip Flockhart

Director of Morris and Steedman Associates, Philip is a Chartered Architect with over 15 years' experience in design and conservation work. Expertise in how historic buildings may be conserved, adapted, extended and regenerated was recognised in 2000 with an RIAS Conservation Accreditation. An interest in all aspects of design and creativity beyond architecture informs his work.

Pol MacDonald

Pol is a landscape architect and architect. His project experience includes master planning, urban design and regeneration, landscape architecture and involvement in environmental assessment, especially landscape and visual impact.  Pol has 12 years of experience and joined EDAW in 2004; prior to which he worked on a part time basis as he balanced teaching, study and professional life. 

Robin Burley

Robin is a coach and mediator.  Formerly, a housing association Chief Executive, his special interest is accessible, inclusive and healthy environments which regenerate communities, respect heritage and contribute to prosperity.  He chairs the Built Environment Forum Scotland and is a Non-executive Director of Lothian NHS Board, a Housing Association and the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust.

Rolf Roscher

Rolf has extensive experience in landscape and urban design projects across a range of scales from site design to master-planning and strategy. Rolf has primarily worked in private practice in the UK with periods lecturing internationally. Recent Glasgow based projects include: the Hidden Gardens, the Matrix and a strategic study of the Merchant City.

Sam Cassels

Sam has worked on significant projects for over 100 public and private sector organisations, and has 25 years' experience helping clients make well informed strategic decisions about their investments in design.  He has qualifications in architecture and economics, and speaks and writes on applying creative tools to solve complex problems.

Scott Adams

Scott is a director of steppDESIGN and Urban Design Skills with qualifications in urban design and architecture. He is a certified American planner and has over 10 years' experience in masterplanning and regeneration projects, ranging in scale from regions and city centres to neighbourhoods and site-specific developments. Scott is particularly interested in urban spatial form, environmental sustainability, training & education and masterplan delivery. 

Terence McCaw

As a chartered architect Terence has been involved in major housing redevelopment in inner city areas, industrial projects including the De Lorean Car Manufactory, health and hospital facilities, sports and recreational projects. He has won design awards from the RIBA, RIAI and RSUA. His most recent experience has been within the planning and appellate process having presided over 300 planning appeals and the Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan. Terence has been recently appointed regional director of Anthony Reddy Associates (NI) Ltd.

Vernon Monaghan

Following several years with Irvine Development Corporation Vernon co-founded Simister Monaghan Architects in 1978.  Largely involved with Glasgow's community-led regeneration in the ‘80s the practice was recognised with several national awards.  Now the principal of Vernon Monaghan Architects he continues to pursue excellence in the creation of sustainable housing environments.
