Kingsland wins award for Education Building Design

The Scottish Design Awards 2011 have recently been announced.

Kingsland Primary School by Archial were winners of the Education Building or Project Award, and RMJM's St Joseph's Primary School awarded for the Interior Design prize.

The Education Building or Project Award covers a range of educational buildings – from primary schools, to University buildings and specialised further education buildings. They showcase Scotland’s continuing success in creating outstanding learning environments.

The nominations were;

  • Kingsland Primary School, Peebles, Scottish Borders Council, Ingenium Archial Ltd
  • University of Edinburgh Business School, University of Edinburgh, LDN Architects LLP
  • St Joseph’s Primary School, Blantyre, South Lanarkshire Council, RMJM Scotland Ltd
  • Speirs Locks Studios, The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Malcolm Fraser Architects
  • Napier University, Sighthill Project, Napier University, RMJM Scotland Ltd

Other categories with nominees from the education sector included;

Interiors: Interior Design

  • Dollar Academy Sixth Form Centre, Dollar Academy, Page / Park Architects
  • St Joseph’s Primary School, Blantyre, South Lanarkshire Council, RMJM Scotland Ltd

Environmental: Sustainable Design

  • Acharacle Primary School, Highland Council, Gaia Architects


The winners were announced on the 19th May 2011.
