Visioning in Scotland: Visionary and Ambitious Plans
Placemaking is a key policy focus for Scottish Government. Better places need better stories, visions of what they could be, and actions to deliver them. Since 2009, the Urbanism team at Architecture + Design Scotland have been working with Local Authorities in Scotland exploring ways of achieving more visionary and ambitious plans. A series of case studies on lessons learned are available on the Architecture +Design Scotland website. These lessons have generated a series of reflections which are contained in essays. These essays discuss the way we see the world, and how we frame what we do relative to architectural and other discourses. There has not been a coherent replacement for the modernism narrative. Placemaking needs to develop a new narrative, which is about collaboration and practice. The essays set out some thoughts on these issues. Comments are welcome.
