To mark the closing of the Cedric Price: Think the Unthinkable exhibition Architecture + Design Scotland and the University of Strathclyde would like to invite you to the final talk in a series of talks and discussions on Price’s work and legacy.
Potteries Thinkbelt: A City Caused by Learning is the title of the final presentation which will be delivered by Samantha Hardingham, a leading specialist on Cedric Price.
Cedric Price's 1964 Potteries Thinkbelt proposal is widely seen as a kind of mobile university campus. Samantha Hardingham will argue that it is, as Price himself said, "a city caused by learning". She will propose that Price's total reordering of design priorities in the making of this project is the key to understanding more about his commitment to finding an indeterminate architecture, or as he later described it, an anticipatory architecture.
Samantha Hardingham is author of ‘Cedric Price Opera’ (John Wiley & Sons 2003), editor of ‘Supercrit #1: Cedric Price Potteries Thinkbelt’ (Routeledge 2007), and author of ‘Cedric Price Retriever’ (InlVA, 2007). Samantha Hardingham has also been commissioned to write a ‘Complete Works’ of Price.
This event will be held on at 6.00pm on Thursday 1st September 2011. There will be an opportunity to view the Cedric Price: Think the Unthinkable exhibition before the event. The exhibtion will close on the 3 September.
