The Pulse of Healthcare Design

07 June 2010

Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) has launched its new online healthcare design resource ‘Pulse’ at www.healthierplaces.org . This resource has been created to assist health boards in developing briefs for new building projects and to raise awareness of the good practice being developed and delivered across NHSScotland and beyond.

Speaking before the launch A+DS Chair Karen Anderson said:

“A+DS’s Healthcare Design team have been working closely in partnership with the Scottish Government’s Health Directorates and Health Facilities Scotland to develop ‘Pulse’ and showcase a growing collection of innovative and well designed healthcare environments.”

“Working with our partners we have ensured that design quality will now be assessed as part of the business case for new NHS projects. The wealth of information contained in ‘Pulse’ will provide health boards with good examples of what has been achieved elsewhere. ‘Pulse’ will be at the heart of continuing to improve Scotland’s health facilities”.

A+DS Healthcare Design Advisor Heather Chapple said:

“In recent years the NHS in Scotland has delivered some great health facilities and has real ambition to go further. A+DS’s new site ‘Pulse’ is designed to both recognise and encourage such successful clientship by showcasing good projects; both delivered and in development.”

“Over the coming months and years the number and detail of case studies and images available at healthierplaces.org will develop into a significant resource on the design of healthcare environments. We encourage all involved in the commissioning of humane and healing places to both use and contribute their successes and knowledge to the site.”
