A+DS Chief Executive Sebastian Tombs has contributed to Planning Aid for Scotland’s AGM on Saturday June 7th at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh.
Planning Aid for Scotland, the organisation, which helps people to get involved in the planning process, has worked in conjunction with Architecture and Design Scotland, Scotland's national champion for good architecture, design and planning in the built environment. This is to put the message of good design in proposed developments across to Planning Aid’s members and volunteer planners.
The AGM, which also featured a talk by Malcolm Fraser, who designed the new Scottish Storytelling Centre, enjoyed a guided tour of the Old Town with Architecture and Design Scotland’s chief executive, Sebastian Tombs.
Petra Biberbach, executive director of Planning Aid for Scotland, said:
“Good architecture and design is a vital element in the planning process. With the coming into force of the Planning Act we are very excited to have Architecture and Design Scotland demonstrating the value of design in the planning system to our members, volunteers and friends. It is important not to just look at the siting of any new development, but is vital that the proposed architecture and design have the support of the local community.”
Sebastian Tombs, chief executive of Architecture and Design Scotland said:
“The design quality of a building or place can make or break whether it is valued as part of a community, or whether it is rejected. Planning Aid for Scotland has an excellent track record in bringing planning issues to the people and together we can demonstrate just how important it is to look at all the aspects of place-making when forming a view on the feasibility of a development.”
