Raymond Young CBE, Chair of Architecture + Design Scotland (A+DS), has written to the leader of Glasgow City Council, Cllr Steven Purcell, to set out A+DS's support for the City's Commonwealth Games bid.
Speaking today Mr Young said that "In the letter I make it clear that A+DS views the 2014 games as an opportunity for an awakening of how well designed solutions can lift all aspects of Scotland's built environment - when the eyes of the world will be upon us. A+DS wants to be a part of that cultural shift, which we are confident it is possible to engineer".
"There is a real opportunity to take a fresh look at these issues and lift both the level of ambition for place-making in the city as part of the delivery of the Games and the level of confidence required to maintain that over the years ahead".
"The Games provide a real opportunity for Glasgow and for Scotland; at A+DS we will do all we can in assisting the bid team to seize it".
