Welcome to the website of Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) the national champion for good architecture, design and planning in the built environment
We have been charged with helping the development industry in Scotland to ‘raise its game'; to ensure that we have a built environment that provides a high quality of life for everyone who lives, works or visits Scotland. Planners play an essential role in the built environment and we assist planners to raise design quality in a number of ways primarily through Design Review
On this site you will find information about the work of our organisation along with useful links and information on the built environment in Scotland. Below are some links which are of particular interest to planners and the planning community.
Design Review is a process where new building proposals - at either pre or post planning stage - are appraised and evaluated by a panel comprised of Board members who are professionals and experts in the built environment sector. The majority of our cases are submitted by planners but some are also submitted by developers, planning consultants and architects.
Design Review - The Process> Find out about the sort of projects we look at in Design Review and advice on how to refer a project.
Design Review Reports Database - a database of published Design Review reports which is searchable by planning authority, date and building type.
