The new building provides 1900m2 of accommodation over three floors to co-locate a number of existing services providing support to children and their families with, or affected by disability.
The building will provide clinical consulting space, space for nursery and crêche activities, space for community evening use and a base for Social Work and Health professionals whose work is in the community supporting families and children.
The building has been designed for future expansion and is located on the main arterial route through Drumchapel. The building's clinical purpose is unusual and it's hoped that further complimentary services will be accommodated in the second phase of works. The buildings location falls within the area of planned regeneration for Drumchapel Town Centre and is seen as an early marker for future development.
The building is envisaged as having a strong street presence and has a carefully articulated box of accommodation around a central 3-storey void and a strong entrance tower. The punctuation of the entrance tower signals the diversity of the client group and alludes to a series of hidden niches around the building which will house artworks being produced in parallel with development. A grant from Yorkhill Foundation has allowed an extensive arts programme to be developed and the enriched environment is seen as being critical to the success of the building to the children who will use it.
