Making Space 2016 was an international architecture and design programme, including a young people-led competition and conference, which promoted innovation, creativity and sustainability in design for children and young people aged 0-18.
For the competition, architects and architectural practitioners from across the globe were invited to submit entries showcasing their work. An awards dinner and two-day conference allowed competition entrants, other professionals, those interested in design and children and young people themselves to share their experiences and learn from each other.
By bringing together exciting examples of innovative design from around the world, which included children, young people and families in the design process, Children in Scotland delivered a thought-provoking programme supporting the ambitions of the Festival of Architecture 2016.
A core element of the programme was the inclusion of children and young people, reflecting the diversity of experience across Scotland. They were involved in the competition from inception to judging as well as the development and delivery of the awards dinner and conference.
